Help Josef get urgent treatment severe neurological pain
My name is Maysoun Sukhon, and I am fundraising on behalf of Josef, a young man living in Sweden who is suffering from severe, disabling chronic neurological pain following COVID-19.
Josef experiences constant, unbearable head pain, described as intense burning and pressure inside the brain. The pain is continuous, treatment-resistant, and has progressively destroyed his ability to function, read, concentrate, or live independently.
On May 26, 2023, during a COVID-related emergency visit, Josef was administered metoclopramide (Reglan). Shortly afterward, his neurological condition dramatically worsened. Since then, his pain has become chronic, central, and refractory to standard treatments.
Despite numerous medical consultations, his case has remained fragmented, with repeated referrals from one specialist to another and no coordinated diagnostic or therapeutic plan.
At this stage, Josef is considered a high-risk patient, not because of a primary psychiatric disorder, but because the level of unrelenting neurological pain is no longer tolerable.
The risk of suicide is directly linked to the pain itself.
Why help is urgently needed
In Sweden, the only immediate care available is through specialized pain clinics, particularly for central neuropathic pain. These treatments are urgently needed now, but involve:
Long travel distances (Josef does not live near Stockholm)
Private or semi-private pain treatment costs
Limited access and long waiting times in the public system
At the same time, two highly specialized neurological centers in Milan, Italy, have reviewed Josef’s case and accepted him for further evaluation.
This requires:
An initial private neurological consultation
Advanced diagnostic tests
Several days (or weeks) of stay while awaiting results
Possible hospitalization for in-depth neurological studies
Because Josef is not an Italian resident, all consultations, tests, and treatments must be paid privately, without access to public healthcare coverage.
How the funds will be used
The fundraising goal is €10,000, which will be used exclusively for:
Travel within Sweden to access urgent pain clinics (Stockholm)
Pain treatment consultations and therapies in Sweden
Passport and travel documents
Flight from Sweden to Italy
Accommodation in Italy during the diagnostic phase
Food and daily living expenses related to medical visits
Private neurological consultations and diagnostic tests in Italy
All expenses are medically necessary.
Why I am organizing this fundraiser
Josef is currently too debilitated by pain to manage logistics, communication, or fundraising on his own.
I am acting as a personal advocate and point of contact, so that he can focus on surviving day by day and accessing care.
This fundraiser is not about comfort or convenience.
It is about giving Josef a real chance to receive proper diagnosis and treatment before the pain becomes irreversible.
